Explore Pender

There’s so much to discover on Pender Island, both on land and throughout the community. From forested trails and scenic shorelines to local studios, markets, and gathering spaces, the islands offer a wide range of experiences at every pace.

The Arts

The arts are alive on Pender if you know where to look. Throughout the year, the islands host festivals, performances, markets, and community celebrations that showcase the creativity of our local community, from the Short Film Festival to the magical Lantern Festival.

Looking for the perfect local treasure? Visit studios and galleries dotted around the island, or head to weekly markets and events like the Fall Crawl and local art shows to meet Pender’s artists, artisans, and crafters and see their work up close.

You’ll also find art woven into the landscape. Be sure to check out the Mother Bear Poles at the Community Hall and the Whale Tiles displayed at beach access points around the islands.

Music is part of island life too, and there’s something for everyone. Musicians gather for regular jam sessions, and live music pops up at venues and outdoor spaces throughout the summer. Don’t miss Tour des Iles, the Mosaic Festival and the Crisp Festival.

Outdoors & Recreation

The outdoors are a big part of life on Pender Island. With forests, shoreline, and rural roads to explore, there are plenty of ways to get outside and enjoy the natural beauty of the islands.

Hike scenic trails through forest and along the coast, or spend the day at the beach swimming, paddling, or simply taking in the views. Several beach access points along the south and west sides of the islands are also known for whale watching from shore, offering the chance to spot orcas and other marine life in the Salish Sea.

Cycling is another way to explore the islands, though riders should be prepared for hills, blind corners, and narrow shoulders on many roads.

Golfers can enjoy a round at the island’s beautiful golf course, while disc golfers will find a highly rated course set among the trees, offering a fun and challenging way to spend an afternoon. You’ll also find tennis and pickleball courts, a pump track, and plenty of opportunities for kayaking, boating, and wildlife viewing on land and sea.

Flavours of Pender

Local food is part of the Pender Island experience. From vineyards and orchards to farm stands and markets, the islands offer plenty of ways to savour the flavours of the season.

Visit the winery, cidery, or distillery for tastings and tours, stop by farm stands for fresh island-grown produce, or browse our farmers market to meet the growers and makers behind it all.

Enjoy fresh baking from a local bakery, grab a coffee, treat yourself at the chocolate shop, or relax with a meal at a local café, restaurant, or pub.

Why not pick up take-away and head to the beach, a park, or a scenic viewpoint for an island picnic?

Tours & Experiences

Sometimes the best way to experience the Penders is with someone who knows it well. Local guides and hosts offer tours and hands-on experiences that bring the island’s landscapes, farms, and creative spirit to life.

Join a boat or kayak tour to explore the surrounding waters, take a guided nature walk, or visit local farms to see where island food is grown.

Stop by the museum to learn about the people, stories, and history that have shaped the islands.

Workshops and other small group experiences also offer a chance to learn new skills, meet local makers, and connect more deeply with the people and places that make Pender unique.
